Introducing Our 2018 Drum Majors
The Battalion’s 2018 drum majors were selected at the corps' January and February Audition Events in Utah. Get to know a little bit more about them!
Andy Blomfelt (Head Drum Major)
Andy Blomfelt is a second year music composition and computer science student at Colorado State University, studying with Dr. James M. David. His concert music has been premiered by the CSU Middle School Outreach Ensemble, The Loveland Orchestra, The Pikes Peak Philharmonic, The Quarthot Quartet, and various chamber ensembles at CSU, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Indiana University. In addition to serving as head drum major for the 2018 season, Andy has also served as assistant drum major for The Battalion in 2016 and 2017.
Personal Statement: "It's been an honor to serve The Battalion for the last two years, and I can't wait to see how the 2018 corps continues to shape the legacy we leave as a young, yet formidable drum corps."
Collin Moore (Assistant Drum Major)
Collin Moore is a student at Snow College where he is studying music education and bassoon performance. This will be Collin's second year with The Battalion - having previously served as a conductor in 2017 - and his fourth year as a conductor. Collin hopes to build his skills and help others do the same for the 2018 drum corps season.
Personal Statement: "The Battalion is a very special and unique opportunity for many of us that would not ordinarily get the chance to do drum corps, and I am excited and honored to help the corps to cultivate a culture of unity, passion, respect, integrity, dedication, and excellence. I know that if we will learn to act as a team and as a family, we can achieve our maximum potential!"
Nick Ducos (Assistant Drum Major)
Nick Ducos is a senior at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs, Utah, where he marched for four years, including one year as field commander for the brass section, and recently marched in the 2018 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. Along with the marching band, Nick is in the Wind Symphony and Advanced Jazz Band on bass trombone, and is also a member of the A Capella and Madrigal Choirs. Nick has been part of The Battalion since the inaugural season in 2016, performing for two years as a member of the baritone section.
Personal Statement: “I've been with The Battalion since the beginning, and the growth I've experienced in all aspects of life is astounding. I'm humbled to have been put in a position where I can serve the corps and hopefully help the members experience the same growth I've experienced going into the 2018 season.”
Ransom Larsen (Assistant Drum Major)
Ransom Larsen is a senior at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, where he was a a member of the marching band for four years, serving as drum major for his final year. Ransom has also played French horn for 8 years. 2018 will be his first season with The Battalion.
Personal Statement: "I am so excited for the 2018 season. I am committed to the highest degree of work to help ensure this corps' success!"
