Expanded, Reorganized Leadership Team Announced
The Battalion today announced a new executive team for the 2018 season, with former Operations Director and Co-Founder Luke McCollum named CEO/Executive Director, Board Member and Co-Founder Alyssa McCollum moving into her previously held role as COO/Operations Director, and former Tour Director and Volunteer Coordinator Katherine Steinacker tapped to serve as The Battalion’s first Corps Director.
These changes come as co-founder Dallin Hatch announces his retirement as Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors to focus on family, career, and other pursuits. Hatch will continue to serve as an advisor to the board and executive team.
“This new leadership team is packed with talent, drive, and heart,” said Hatch. “I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for each of them. They have my full trust and support. It has been an honor serving in this capacity, and I’m excited to watch the corps thrive under its new leadership.”
New CEO/Executive Director Luke McCollum says he is excited to get to work on the next phase of growth for the corps.

He put his heart and soul into bringing this dream to life and is such an incredible example of servant leadership. Great leaders surround themselves with incredible people and build teams that are larger than themselves. Dallin has built and led the team in creating a strong foundation to support sustained growth,” said McCollum. “Our incredible team of educators, volunteers, and administrators are bought in to our mission and are committed to delivering an exceptional experience to our members and our audience. As we continue to grow the corps and the tour, we’re excited at the opportunity to expand our leadership team and create new leadership positions to support our growth.”
The Battalion was founded in 2014 by local team of business professionals and educators that came together to create Utah’s first DCI corps. The founders spent the next two years building the operational, financial, and educational pillars of the organization, all while hosting educational events throughout the state. In 2016, the corps fielded its first touring ensemble of 104 members – a group that was approved to compete as part of DCI’s Open Class and toured more than 2,000 miles through the Pacific northwest and the Intermountain west. The 2017 corps of 142 members completed the longest tour in the corps' young history, while improving its final score by nearly 10 points year over year.
The mission of The Battalion Drum & Bugle Corps is to provide learning and performance opportunities for young adults that develop their character, leadership skills, artistry, selflessness, and spirituality in a Christian-values-based environment.
