Meet Our 2017 Percussion Student Leadership
The Battalion’s 2017 percussion student leadership team was selected at the corps' May camp, and we couldn't be more excited to introduce you to them. Get to know a little bit more about them below!
Matt Hauser (Front Ensemble Section Leader)
Matt Hauser, from Littleton, CO, is a rising junior at Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO) majoring in Percussion Performance. Matt’s experience includes serving as percussion captain for three years at Dakota Ridge High School, playing marimba with the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble for two seasons, and most recently as a member of WGI PIO Silver Medalist Rise Percussion. Additionally, he has performed with Colorado State’s Marching Band, Presidential Pep Band, Basketball Pep Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Combos. Matt has previously been a front ensemble/battery tech at Dakota Ridge and Chatfield High Schools (Littleton, CO). Currently, he is a front ensemble tech at the Northern Colorado Academy of Marching Percussion (Loveland, CO) as well as the front ensemble caption head at Windsor High School (Windsor, CO). He has developed skills in a variety of percussion instruments, specializing in drum set and marimba. This will be Matt’s first season marching in Drum Corps International.
Personal Statement: "I am extremely excited to be given such an amazing opportunity to further develop my abilities as a musician, leader, teacher, performer, and person with The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps!"

Andrew Ramirez (Rhythm Section Leader)
Andrew Ramirez is a bass guitar player who looks forward to studying Music Production. Andrew has been studying bass for 8 years. He attended Mountain Range High School in Colorado, where he was a member of the top orchestra, Marching Band, and Winter Percussion Ensemble. He has marched two seasons with the Blue Knights Indoor Percussion Ensemble, and is eager to continue his membership with the ensemble. This is Andrew’s first year with The Battalion.
Personal Statement: “I’m incredibly grateful for the performance opportunity offered to me by The Battalion, and I’m eager for the experiences I’m going to have with my fellow members.”

Sammy Morris (Vibe Section Leader)
Sammy Morris recently finished her sophomore year at the University of Northern Colorado where she is majoring in English Education. Previously, she was in marching band at Arvada West High School for five years and marching band in the Pride of the Rockies marching band at UNC for two years. She marched the 2016 winter percussion season with Rise Percussion based out of Colorado. She currently teaches at Prairie View High School in Colorado, teaching their front ensemble and occasionally giving private lessons.
Personal Statement: "I'm extremely excited to march my first year of corps at The Battalion. I know that I will grow as both a musician and a person through this experience, and I can't wait to play and learn with so many talented people."

Dallas Anselmo (Snare Section Leader)
Dallas is from Wellington, Utah and will be entering his senior year at Southern Utah University this fall. He is studying Criminal Justice and Law, however, he has stayed involved with music throughout his education. He played in the drumline and concert bands at Carbon High School, as well as performing with nearly all ensembles at SUU, and has been the section leader for the SUU Thunderbird Drumline since his sophomore year. He also works at Canyon View High School where he teaches percussion. Dallas was a member of The Battalion last season for the inaugural tour, and he looks forward to aging out this summer.
Personal Statement: "I am so thankful for the places music has taken me, and even more thankful for the people it has allowed me to meet. I am so honored to be a leader in this amazing organization and I look to continue the traditions and pursuit of excellence laid out by the amazing leadership before me."

Ryan Good (Bass Drum Section Leader)
Ryan Good is a senior at Colorado University in Boulder pursuing a BS in Technology, Arts, and Media Engineering. He has marched three years with the CU’s Golden Buffalo Marching Band and will be the tenor drum section leader for the upcoming season. Ryan also participates in the independent indoor percussion ensemble Rise Percussion; the group won a silver medal in the 2017 WGI Open Class Finals and the Fan Favorite Award for the 2nd year in a row. He marched 4 years with the marching band and indoor percussion ensemble at Monarch High School in his hometown of Louisville (The Colorado one not the Kentucky one). This will be Ryan’s 2nd year as bass 2 and bass drum section leader for The Battalion.
Personal Statement: "The Battalion is an awesome collective of motivated staff and members and we will accomplish a lot in our time together. I’m excited to see how everyone’s talent and hard work will be exhibited through our performances!"

Dallin Johnson (Tenor Section Leader)
Dallin Johnson is a percussionist who currently resides in Stansbury Park, Utah. He has performed with many DCI and WGI groups in the past 4 years, including South County Percussion, Impact Percussion, The Columbians, and The Academy. A student of Ike Jackson, Michael Cooper, Drew Guy, Cisco Hance, Emmanuel Olaiya, and Eric Nix; Dallin brings a unique depth of experience with him to The Battalion this year. Dallin served an LDS mission in the Hawaiian Islands and plans to pursue degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Music Composition.

Nick Carranza (Cymbal Section Leader)
Nick Carranza is a recently graduated senior at Air Academy High School and plans on going to the University of Colorado - Boulder next fall to study Psychology. Nick’s previous marching experience includes 4 years in high school marching band as well as a season with Altitude percussion and one season with the Blue Knights percussion ensemble where he was also section leader.
Personal Statement: “I’m extremely excited for this season. It’s quite special to be a member of the corps’ first cymbal line. I am looking forward to a rewarding season with a group of amazing people”
